Why Carousels Outperform Single Posts
Instagram's algorithm rewards content that keeps people swiping. When someone swipes through your carousel, that counts as multiple interactions, which signals the algorithm to show your post to more people.
Carousels also get saved at a higher rate than any other format. Saves tell the algorithm your content is valuable enough to return to.
The 7-Slide Carousel Framework
Slide 1 (Cover): Bold hook. This is what people see in the feed. Make it a question, a surprising stat, or a strong statement that creates curiosity. Include "swipe to see more" text.
Slides 2 to 6 (Content): Deliver on the hook. Each slide should be one clear point, tip, or step. Keep text minimal. One idea per slide.
Slide 7 (CTA): Tell them what to do next. Save this post, follow for more, visit the link in bio, leave a comment.
Content Ideas That Work as Carousels
- "5 things [topic] taught me"
- "Step-by-step guide to [process]"
- "Common mistakes + how to fix them"
- "Before vs after" with one concept per slide
- "Everything you need to know about [topic] in 6 slides"
Design Principles
Consistency across slides. Use the same fonts, colors, and layout style throughout. Each slide should feel like part of a cohesive set, not a random collection.
Keep text minimal. Aim for 10 to 20 words per slide. Let visuals do the heavy lifting.
The First Slide Is Everything
If your cover slide does not stop the scroll, the rest does not matter. Spend 50% of your carousel creation time on the first slide.
