The Bio Has One Job
When someone lands on your profile, they make a decision in 3 seconds: follow or leave. Your bio is what tips that decision.
A great bio answers three questions immediately:
1. What do you do?
2. Who do you help?
3. What should I do next?
The Formula
Line 1: What you do + who you help
"We help small businesses grow on social media"
Line 2: Your unique value or key differentiator
"Done-for-you content, strategy, and management"
Line 3: Location or service area (if local is a differentiator)
"Based in Prescott AZ. Serving clients nationwide"
Line 4: CTA with a link
"Get your free profile review below"
Platform-Specific Notes
Instagram: 150 characters max. Use line breaks for readability. One strong CTA and one link in bio.
Facebook: Longer character limit. Use the About section fully. Include your website, hours, and a detailed description.
LinkedIn: 220 characters for the headline (make it a value statement, not just your job title). Use the About section to tell your full story.
TikTok: 80 characters. Short, punchy, one CTA.
The Keywords Matter
Instagram and TikTok now have search functionality. Include keywords your ideal client would search for in your bio: "social media manager," "content creator," "small business marketing," etc.
